Many people prefer the hassle-free experience of signing up using their Facebook account. Showcase IDX allows them to do just that. Don't worry, you'll still receive their email address -- even better, because it is the email they use for Facebook, it's more likely to be a legitimate address. This feature lets your website's visitors register or sign in faster than ever, which means more leads for you. To take advantage of this feature, as well as Facebook sharing (if your MLS allows), you'll need to set Facebook up to work with Showcase IDX. Here's how: You need your own Facebook account to use this integration. Start by logging into your account then visiting
https://developers.facebook.com. Choose "Add a New App" from the "My Apps" drop-down menu in the upper-right corner.
Select "Website" in the menu that pops up.
Choose a name for your app. It's a good idea to use your name or the name of your website, brand, or brokerage. Next, click "Create New Facebook App ID."
On the next screen, just click "Skip Quick Start."
- Click "Settings" in the menu on the left.
- In the field marked "App Domains," enter the website you want to use Facebook with. If you have more than one site, you'll need to repeat this step for each one. Enter your email address in the "Contact Email" field.
- Click "Add platform."
When the pop-up appears, choose "Website" from the options.
Enter your website's URL then hit "Save Changes." Copy the App ID given on the upper left.
Leave this Facebook Developers page open. You'll need it in a minute. Open a new tab or window and head back to the Settings section of your Agent Dashboard. Scroll down until you see the field marked "Facebook App ID" under the "Integrations" heading. Paste the number you just copied from Facebook here then scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit "Save Settings" (don't forget that step!).
Visit one of your site's registration forms and you'll see a new option for your users to sign up with Facebook. (You may need to refresh the page.)
Users who click this will get the standard permissions box used for Facebook sign ups around the web. It lets them know that you will get their email address. It also tells them that your site will not post to Facebook on their behalf.
There's one final step to make Facebook features available to all of your users. Go back to the Facebook Developers page that you left open earlier (or re-open it if you accidentally closed it). Click "Status & Review" in the left menu. Change the toggle at the top of the page to "Yes." A pop-up will ask you if you're sure you want to make the app public. Simply confirm and Facebook registration and sharing will be available to everyone who visits your site!
Once you've gone through this set-up process, leads can also share interesting listings with their friends on Facebook. They can simply click the Facebook icon on any listing detail page and add a personalized message. The share will list your website as the source and will feature a photo of the listing.
