If you're new and working with the plugin for the first time on a site, maybe you set the URL to something like /properties/ just to get started. Now that your site is getting closer to going live, you're thinking you want to change it to /search-homes-in-california/. It's easy to do that and we'll show you how.
Disclaimer - If your SEO is established, we do not recommend changing this URL often. It should be handled strategically to not affect your place on Google.
In Wordpress, find Showcase IDX in the left navigation to open the plugin set-up page.
On this screen, you'll have a two options to choose from. Let's walk through each option.
Select a Page
If you already have a page in mind that you want to use, you can find it in the dropdown list. Pages that are in draft mode will not show here. You would have to publish it before proceeding with this option.
Once you've selected your page, click the blue Save Changes button. This will update your new page with the [showcaseidx] shortcode for you.
Add New Page
If you are not using an already created page, you can create one from here using the Add New Page button.
You will type in the preferred slug you wish to use for this page. Do not include spaces between words. Instead, use dashes or underscores for a happy URL and then save your changes.
This function creates a new published page in Wordpress and will add the the [showcaseidx] shortcode to the page for you.
You can quickly visit or edit your new page from this screen using either of the buttons of their name.
Visiting your page will take you to preview the front-end. Editing the page will take you to the backend page editor in Wordpress.
Once you've saved your changes, you should see a notification at the top of the screen which indicates that your change was successful.
What happened to my other page?
Your previous default search page still exists! We commented out the [showcaseidx] shortcode from that page and added some text to help redirect users if they land on that page. If you change your mind and want to revert to use your previous page, you can simply follow the same instructions and the page will work again. Neat, huh?
